AFFAIRS The government has noted United States Secretary of State Collin Powell's submission of Iraq's weapons programme to the United Nations security council on Wednesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs said. It said in a statement on Thursday the government also took note of the response by other members of the council regarding the Iraqi issue. "The debate reaffirms South Africa's view of the centrality of the UN in dealing with matters that impact on global peace and security as well as the necessity to maintain unity and cohesion in tackling challenges facing humanity," the department said.
