A male version of the pop phenomenon Twins will launch their debut CD in April, becoming the latest cut-price stars to come off Hong Kong's entertainment production line.

Amid a sluggish economy, teen idols who are cheap and easily moulded have become a lifesaver for music companies.

Critics, however, are attacking the rising culture of "talentless" young stars, saying it sets a poor example to young people and harms the music industry.

They say young people are being encouraged to think they can become rich and famous with neither hard work or ability.
