Life in Congress is an oxymoron. There is no life in Congress.
After my first year in Congress, I determined that if I knew I had only one year to live. I'd choose to live it in Congress because it was the longest year of my life. Now, after eight years in office, I proudly wear the title of former congressman, and I have more freedom to do novel things such as go to my kids' athletic events, read a good book and browse on the Internet.
The Internet. A great innovation, and I know we all thank Al Gore for inventing it. But there is some pretty amazing reading if you don't have anything better to do. I found a website the other day that really lit me up. On it, you can lend your name to every politically correct cause in the world. You can sign online petitions to stop bull-fighting in Colombia, stop live animal sales at a national pet retailer, defend the rain forest and ban snowmobiles in national parks. There is even a petition opposing the Augusta National Golf Club and urging Tiger Woods to forsake the biggest and most prestigious event in his profession for the cause of "equal rights."
Tiger is in the eye of a storm over the Augusta National Golf Club controversy. The Political Correctness Cops, led by Martha Burk and the National Council of Women's Organizations (NCWO) and bolstered by media sympathizers including the New York Times, are pressuring Woods to effect social change. They feel disenfranchised because Augusta National--home of the storied Masters Tournament--includes no women in its membership. Funny, I don't hear them invoking the names of David Duval, Phil Mickelson and Georgia native Davis Love III in this debate. Just Tiger.
One woman posted a comment pointing out the inconsistency of the women's groups that don't protest all-women's organizations. She makes a good point. These people are setting a precedent of making today's solution tomorrow's problem. Just think of the slippery slope down which they would have us slide. Under the policies of the PC Cops, how can we let ...
