With the season looming, Fox analyst and former crew chief Jeff Hammond explains who's in the fast lane and who's headed south.

Kurt Busch. He's got the total package. He can win at the short track and the superspeedway. He has shown a lot of ability even on the road courses. He has got as much motivation as Tony Steward would have as far as trying to defend his championship.

Ryan Newman. He seems like a young man who's got it figured out. A lot of times these guys have that sophomore jinx, but I believe Roger Penske, by switching to Dodge, may have given him an advantage. I believe Dodge is going to be the car to beat.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. I believe that for the first time in a while, Junior knows what he wants. I think the talent is there, and the desire is there at times, but if the maturity comes along with what I'm hearing and seeing ...
