Shortly before 5 p.m. on October 7, 2002, a man walked into Frank's Jewelry Store in a Forest Hills, Pennsylvania, shopping center and placed a gun to the head of store co-owner Diana Curto. Mrs. Curto's husband, Frank, confronted the would-be robber, drew his own gun, and shot him twice.
The wounded criminal fled in an automobile, but was apprehended about 15 minutes later when police noticed the car stopped along a highway. He attempted to run, but was apprehended and taken to a local hospital. Identified as Gregory Reese, 34, he was charged for his crimes but later died of his wounds.
