Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, is not averse to continue the nine-year tax holiday for existing 100-percent export-oriented units (EOUs) and units set up in export processing zones (EPZs). It is also willing to continue the seven- year tax holiday for special economic zones (SEZs). The point under debate now is whether such benefits should be extended to new units. The Ministry is confident of resolving the issue in the near future.
