The long-awaited Cat 6 cabling standard (ANSI/TIA/EIA-854-A) was finally ratified last year, and it defined a higher bandwidth transmission of 250MHz as compared to 100MHz for Cat 5e. The standard supports a high performance unshielded twisted pair (UTP) copper cable specification that has more shielding, thicker copper cores, and more stringent test parameters than Cat 5e.
