Wireless Web services to drive J2ME mobile apps

As application development moves from single discrete platforms to the networked infrastructure, Web services will be the key enabler. Another technology evolving as rapidly is wireless and mobile solutions.

The evolution of mobile information device profile (MIDP) for Java-enabled devices has also garnered worldwide adoption with much interest in the developer and content community, not to mention a high volume of deployment. To date, statistics show that developers have downloaded over 150,000 copies of the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) Reference Implementation, which is currently at version 2.

By leveraging J2ME, developers will be able to develop MIDP applications and provision them onto MIDP-compliant devices, like mobile phones and PDAs.
