Unidentified armed men attacked the Plaisance police station in northern Haiti on 30 January, tied up all the policemen there and made them lie on the floor before escaping with all the weapons and ammunition in the police station, the Cap-Haitien correspondent of Haitian Signal FM radio reported. The correspondent added that following recent attacks on Radio Maxima, which is off the air after having had three of its transmitters destroyed, journalists who work for that station and other radio stations have been threatened and, in one case, beaten up, "because people who identify themselves as partisans of the government say the journalists are working against the Lavalas government".
