TOKYO, Feb 4 Asia Pulse - Shochiku Co. (TSE:9601) and six other film companies are moving to produce digital movies at a facility that opened Saturday in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture.
The new facility, called SKIP City, is jointly run by the Saitama prefectural and Kawaguchi municipal governments, as well as the Sony Corp. (TSE:6758) group, among others. The facility allows these firms to borrow state-of-the-art equipment at low cost in line with the Saitama government's policy of seeking to attract users.
Digital techniques, which use only computers to shoot and edit movies, have been developed mainly in Hollywood and are coming into wider use in Japan as well.
