CEBU CITY, Feb 4 Asia Pulse - The new access road from Mactan airport to Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ) 1 will bring down the transport cost of imported goods, said Philippine Export Zone Authority (Peza) Director General Lilia de Lima.

Glenn Westerman, president of the Mactan Export Processing Zone Chamber of Exporters and Manufacturers (Mepzcem), recommended the construction of the access road.

De Lima said Peza could attract more foreign companies to invest in the country if transport costs were lower.

From Mactan airport, the shipments of imported goods will be either brought directly to the firms at MEZ or will be stored first at U-freight Corp. or at Ground Air Logistics Corp. (Galco), Customs bonded warehouses, before they will be brought to the consignees.
