MELBOURNE, Feb 4 Asia Pulse - The Australian sharemarket headed straight into positive territory at the opening today reflecting the modest rise on Wall Street overnight.

The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index gained 13.4 points to 2956.0, while the all ordinaries index added 14.8 points to 2935.3 at 1013 AEDT.

On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the March share price index contract was up 11 points to 2944.0 - a two point discount to the underlying index - on volume of 2,489 contracts.

In New York, investors cautiously extended Wall Street's rally into a second session Monday as lower prices temporarily offset the market's concerns about war.
