SYDNEY, Feb 4 Asia Pulse - The NSW Government will today announce an additional $28 million (US$16.38 million) in assistance to drought-affected farmers, Premier Bob Carr said.
Mr Carr made the announcement as he accused the federal government of delaying assistance to NSW farmers who applied for Exceptional Circumstance (EC) funding to cope with the effects of the drought.
"We're announcing today $27 or $28 million in additional state government assistance to drought-affected farmers," Mr Carr told Sydney radio 2GB today.
"It's going out there in practical assistance."
Mr Carr said NSW Agriculture had lodged 13 applications for EC funding since November 13, but the federal government had only approved 2.5 claims.
It had not responded to six of the remaining applications, while others had been put on hold until the December-January rainfall was evaluated, he said.
The EC funding provides household income support for up to two years, as well as farm business support.
