No matter what the mission, location, or destination of a naval activity--Naval Supply Systems Command is committed to being ready, resourceful, and responsive to its needs worldwide. However, fulfillment of that commitment is not easily put into practice. The solution requires highly trained personnel, equipped with the technical knowledge and skills to effectively determine requirements, process requisitions, track pipeline location of material, control budgets, respond quickly to these overwhelming tasks and priorities, and successfully implement inventory-reconciliation processes.

The Fleet Assistance and Shipboard Training (FAST) Program is one of the methods NAVSUP, fleets, type commanders, and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadrons (MALS) use to train fleet supply personnel and accomplish the analyses and reconciliation to meet this commitment.

Background

Historically, supply support is one of the most critical aspects of fleet readiness. Estimating and maintaining adequate allowances--and subsequent replenishment--has been a challenge for Sailors since first going to sea and remains so today.

America's War on Terrorism brought new complications to already complex fleet operations. A stepped-up operating tempo, combined with far-flung operations and an ever-increasing complexity of technology, has made the difficult task of determining, fulfilling, and tracking material requirements even more demanding.

As supply technology strives to keep pace with operations technology, today's Navy personnel rely on the FAST Program to provide supplemental training for afloat-automated management systems. FAST is a proven solution that provides the necessary training to personnel for effectively managing Navy materials worldwide, while offering enhanced resource planning and financial management support across the entire enterprise.

The current FAST Program Contract (known as FAST2000) was awarded to CACI International Inc. The FAST 2000 Team's mission is to provide their customers with system-trained personnel, in-house and follow-up training, and financial and inventory reconciliation. Customers also gain detailed knowledge of new software and processes, emerging initiatives, and expertise in critical legacy systems.
