CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (CBS.MW) -- The space shuttle Columbia broke apart 200,000 feet above Texas on Saturday during its landing descent.
At the Mission Control center in Cape Canaveral, officials reported losing contact with the spacecraft at 9 a.m. Eastern, 16 minutes ahead of its scheduled landing in Florida. The crew of seven included the first Israeli astronaut.
