THE North-East has been promised another round of the British Rally Championship after Gateshead's successful debut as a venue last year.
Fans packed Watergate Park or made the trip to Kielder Forest to watch stars from the UK and Europe battle it out and it is hoped they will return for a bigger and better event in 2003.
Organisers have indicated a new spectator stage is planned during the rally which runs from Friday, April 25, until Saturday, April 26.
Fans have also been promised better views, more access to the drivers, a high-profile start area and more parking.
Spokesman Ed Graham said: "Moving the rally to Gateshead was a calculated risk but it has proved to be an unqualified success, giving many more opportunities for promoting the rally and a huge increase in spectator involvement.
