Pakistani police applied to have two Islamic militants suspected over an attack that killed 11 French engineers to be tried in prison for security reasons.
"We have requested the Sindh home department to hold the trial inside the prison for security reasons," chief police investigator, Fayyaz Leghari, told AFP on Saturday.
Suspected Islamic militants are routinely tried in prison here. Five men accused of the June 14 suicide attack outside the US consulate in Karachi are currently being tried in the city's central prison, and British-born militant Sheikh Omar was sentenced to death in Hyderabad jail in July for the murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl.
The police made the request on Saturday as the anti-terrorism court resumed the trial and adjourned the case until Feburary 7 after brief proceedings.
