Former world number one Monica Seles faced a scare before beating Chanda Rubin for a final berth in the Pan Pacific Open tennis tournament.
Top-seeded Seles stormed back from a set down and a service break down in the second set to end with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory in the first match of the all-American semi-finals Saturday.
"I was really frustrated when I lost the first set and kind of went down on my serve," Seles said.
"I had a good come back there in the second set. I just played good tennis at key times in the third set."
Seles started with a 4-1 lead but it slipped away as Rubin began to mix her game, often charging to the net to put pressure on Seles, and hitting several backhand winners to take five games in a row.
It was only the second set Rubin has taken off Seles in their five encounters.
