A Muslim journalist was among four people killed and twenty-one others injured in separate shoot-outs and explosions in Indian-administered Kashmir, police and witnesses said.

The fresh violence has come after a week of relative peace.

Parvaz Mohammed Sultan, the owner and editor of the local press agency News and Feature Alliance (NAFA), was shot in the head and neck and rushed to hospital in serious condition, police said Friday.

He later succumbed to his injuries, police and hospital sources said.

Sultan's office, in the busy Press Enclave area of the summer capital Srinagar, also serves as his residence.

Nobody else was injured in the attack at 6:00 pm Friday (1230 GMT) as the journalist was alone with his office boy, who escaped unhurt.
