The Illinois State MTA (ISMTA) was founded in 1886 and has a long history of providing high-quality programs and support for music teachers. The ISMTA Achievement in Music program could be a standard for the entire MTNA membership. Certification was an abiding concern of ISMTA long before a national certification plan was developed, and Illinois members were among the first to embrace the concept of national certification in 1967.
