The San Francisco Bay Area's premier music mentoring program is now becoming the nation's premier music mentoring program with its recent expansion to Long Island and South Central Los Angeles, approaching its 400th workshop.
Founded in 1999 by internationally renowned jazz guitarist Bruce Forman, this nonprofit mentoring program was created to continue the legacy and historical tradition of jazz guitar. JazzMasters Workshop brings world-class musicians and music educators who provide free workshops to high school and college-age kids. There is a pilot program for younger kids in the Seaside, California, Boys & Girls Club, also expanding nationally.
The program was initially funded in the dot-com boom by a couple of jazz-loving venture capitalists. Peter Coyote, a champion of the arts, heads the board.
