ST. LOUIS & LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2003
UK's Leading Food Retailer Signs Emerson Climate Technologies to
Evaluate Energy-Using Equipment at 300 Additional Locations
Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR), today announced it has been awarded a contract to provide energy efficiency services for an additional 300 supermarket locations owned by Tesco PLC (LSE:TSCO), the largest food retailer in the United Kingdom. The new multimillion-dollar contract expands on a program begun last year that focused on 325 of Tesco's highest energy-using stores.
Under the contract, Emerson's Retail Services group will "energy commission" each of the 300 additional stores. E-Commissioning(TM) is Emerson's patent-pending approach to systematically examining, testing, and adjusting all energy-consuming equipment used in supermarkets - including refrigeration, HVAC, lighting and building control systems - to restore peak operating and energy efficiency. Emerson expects to complete its review of all of Tesco's supermarkets in the UK by April 2003.
"Emerson's E-Commissioning service has been very valuable in helping us identify, prioritize, and correct equipment issues and maintenance practices that cause higher-than-necessary electricity usage at our stores," said John Ashford, Tesco's head of engineering. "Expanding this program will enable us to achieve more efficient energy usage across all of our stores, which is good for the environment and good for our bottom line."
