SEOUL, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - Economic ministers will hold a conference around the middle of the month to discuss measures to deal with possible hikes in consumer prices, the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) said today.
The ministry said concerns about inflationary pressures had to be addressed in light of the rise in crude oil prices triggered by tension in the Middle East and the Lunar New Year on Feb 1.
The Lunar New Year celebrations along with Chuseok, or Autumn Full Moon, usually push up agricultural and fisheries prices as people prepare traditional dishes to offer their ancestors and share with family members.
"Hoarding of produce that will be in high demand will be strictly discouraged," an official for MOFE's Welfare and Consumer Policy Bureau said.
