TAIPEI, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - The Directorate General of Post under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) was transformed into a state-owned firm as part of the government's efforts to privatize public enterprises to upgrade operational efficiency.
MOTC Political Vice Minister Tsai Duei said at an inaugural ceremony for Chunghwa Post Co. Ltd. that the transformation will not affect any of the rights of customers of the post office prior to the restructuring.
Tsai also assured postal workers that their legitimate rights and interests will not be compromised in the process of postal service reform.
He urged a group of postal labor union members who gathered outside the new company's headquarters in protest of the transformation to support the move and work hand-in-hand with the company's new management to create a bright future for the firm.
Citing the success story of Chunghwa Telecom Corp.'s restructuring as an example, Tsai said the transformation will benefit the postal service and its staff in the long run.
