SEOUL, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - Overseas projects clinched by domestic construction firms last year exceeded US$6 billion and are projected to reach US$7 billion this year, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation said today.
The ministry said total overseas projects secured by Korean firms totaled US$6.12 billion over 140 cases, exceeding the preceding year by 41 per cent in value and 82 per cent in the number of cases.
Overseas projects recorded US$7.4 billion in 1994, US$8.5 billion in 1995, US$10.8 billion in 1996, US$14 billion in 1997 but plunged to US$4.1 billion in 1998 due to the financial crisis, swinging back up to US$9.2 billion in 1999.
The figure fell to US$5.4 billion in 2000 due to heated competition with overseas rivals including those from China and amounted to US$4.4 billion in 2001.
