SYDNEY, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - Australian stocks kicked off the new year with little activity this morning, sliding slightly in early trade.
"It's a little bit softer, it opened down about three points for the all ords," Macquarie Equities broker Lucinda Chan said.
"The banks are a little bit weaker today, National and ANZ are down, but News Corp seems to be holding the market up reasonably well."
By 1024 AEDT, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was 4.3 points lower at 3002.8 while the all ordinaries fell 2.5 points to 2973.0.
On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the March share price index contract was 4.0 points softer at 3001.0 - a 1.8 point deficit to the underlying index ...
