INDIA'S PETROLEUM SECTOR PLAGUED BY CONTROVERSY IN 2002.
NEW DELHI, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - India's petroleum sector provided fuel for political controversies such as the divestment of oil companies and the petrol pump allotment scam during 2002, as deregulation and major gas finds were relegated to the background.
While the ruling coalition was divided on the issue of privatisation of Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum, the Supreme Court ticked off the government for canceling allotments of all the 3760 petrol pumps and kerosene and gas agencies made since January 2000 when faced with charges of favoritism in awards.
