US actors' guild taps "Chicago" and "The Hours" for awards.

The sultry musical "Chicago" and literary drama "The Hours" led nominations for the US screen actors' union awards, honours that are often seen as a bellwether for the top acting Oscars.

The razzle-dazzle tale of crime and passion in the Windy City won five nominations, including best actor nods for Richard Gere and Renee Zellweger, while "The Hours" won four including best actress for star Nicole Kidman.

The Screen Actors Guild's (SAG) nominations for the best movie performances of 2002 focussed on many of the films and actors honoured in last week's Golden Globe Awards, helping narrow the crowded field of competitors …
