Lance bounced in from the Saturday morning clinic and announced, "There are mushrooms about. Let's go and get some after lunch."

"But it hasn't been wet enough, or sunny enough," Fleur replied. She did not feel like walking around a wet paddock.

"That's what I thought, but they are growing. One of the nurses brought abucketful to the hospital for whoever wanted any. Let's go up Tragedy Gully where we got some last year."

They left the car at the side of the road and with knives and two buckets climbed over a barbed-wire fence. Fleur looked up the steep rise that stretched before them but could not see a single mushroom. Lance, still bursting ...
