There was a lot of noise about "City of God" when it played at the Cannes Film Festival last year, and it now bursts into America waving a fully loaded nomination for the Golden Globes. I don't envy the judges for Best Foreign Language Film, who may be fearing that, if they hand the award to anything else, they will end up in a dark alley without any toes.
