California Governor Gray Davis planned to play Santa Claus at St. Patrick's Home for Children in Sacramento on December 20th. But what was, no doubt, considered a good PR move turned into a media black eye for the governor.
Shortly before Davis was to appear, the children's home administrator, Monsignor Edward Kavanagh, nipped the visit in the bud. Is Msgr. Kavanagh a Grinch, a Scrooge? No, he is a Catholic priest who sees the hypocrisy and immorality of welcoming a vigorously pro-abortion politician to a Catholic home for children. The monsignor, who only learned of Davis' planned visit the night before, delivered an ultimatum to the governor's office. In it, he told the governor, a Catholic, he would be welcome to the home if he signed a pledge repenting of his promotion of "the killing of innocent unborn children." "We cannot allow a person who doesn't promote the sanctity of human life to appear that he was all for helping children when he's killing the unborn--the most defenseless of all," Kavanagh said in an interview with the Sacramento Bee.
