THE Ulster Cancer Foundation has offered support and encouragement to people whose New Year resolution is to stop smoking.
Gerry McElwee, the charity's head of cancer prevention, said: "It's easily the best thing people can do to improve their health. The benefits of stopping smoking are both immediate and long-term, so it's no surprise that it's the most popular resolution.
"Giving up smoking can be very difficult, but it is important that people know that there are numerous services available to support them as they stop.
