US military logistical activity in the region and Western media reports indicate that war against Baghdad is immanent but there are fresh signs that Saddam could be overthrown without a war. For example, it has been reported that the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joschka Fischer, has told [his Iranian counterpart] Kamal Kharrazi on the phone that America is trying to overthrow Saddam Husayn without a war, bloodshed or heavy military expenditure. Apparently, Washington has fully harmonized its policy with Russia and the recent remarks made by [former Russian Prime Minister] Primakov about Putin's visit to Baghdad is significant within this context.

Primakov, the former Russian prime minister, recently said there is the possibility that Putin will personally visit Baghdad to convince Saddam to leave power and depart for Moscow.
