Peshawar, 28 December: 6 Jaddi [27 December, the day when Russian forces physically entered Afghanistan] was condemned today in Peshawar.

The Afghan consulate held a session in Peshawar today. The military aggression against our beloved country on 6 Jaddi, 1358 [1979] by Russian forces was condemned at the session.

Afghan Consul Haji Abdol Khaleq, Qari Azizollah, and esteemed Zarmina gave speeches to the session, and the Russian invasion, which has caused misery and differences even up until now, was toughly condemned.

Nohzat-e Hambastagi Afghanistan [a group of political and public organizations] also held a session on the issue. Many made speeches and unanimously condemned the Russian invasion. They regarded the Russians as responsible for all the predicaments and issued the following resolution at the end of the session: ... Now that a year has past since the new changes took place in Afghanistan and the UN peacekeeping forces exist in the country in practice, still there are some elements that can seriously endanger our independence and national integrity. The Bonn accord and the 1964 constitution have not been observed in practice. Ethnic and outlaw forces still exist with the same framework as they had previously and trample on people's rights. There is still no administration, representing national unanimity and democracy. The country lacks stable security. The atmosphere is favourable for foreign interference, and different sections of the population do not trust each other.
