Big yellow taxis for Dublin?

This column is not alone in constantly bemoaning the state of Dublin's taxis.

While the majority of taxi drivers are decent and pleasant, there is still a sizeable minority of drivers who are rude or who insist on giving us their world view even when it is obvious that they are completely mad. And, the bane of every commuter, drivers who leave their roof sign light on even when they are already engaged.

So any move to improve the taxi service is going to be welcomed by everyone, right? Wrong.

A new report from a collection of disability rights and business groups has come up with some eminently sensible plans for the taxi industry.

A screen should be placed between the driver and the passengers is one interesting notion, as is the idea of having all taxis yellow, a la New York.
