By A WESTMINSTER watchdog's call for the Government to spend more on elderly people and to care better for their needs has been welcomed in Bristol.

In a new report, the Commons public accounts committee cautioned the Government over the way services for the elderly were delivered.

The watchdog blamed the confusing and complex arrangements in place at present and the poorly explained rules that discourage elderly people from using services or claiming their entitlements.

Currently, 40 per cent of NHS expenditure on health and social care is spent on those over 65, and those over state pension age receive more …
