THE RESPONSE to Don Watson's book Death Sentence: The Decay of Public Language seems characteristic of Australian intellectualism, in its near-total failure to engage with the book critically. I have seen articles about the book, articles about Don Watson as its author, articles publicising it, and articles taking up its ideas to fill the space that columnists need to fill, but what has yet to appear is anything I would call a review of the book.

However bad managerial English is, the question for any reviewer must be, "How good is Don Watson's book about it?" but this ...
