PORT CHARLOTTE -- One day in 1997, David Phelps met with executives at Word Records, and his career has been like "a snowball rolling down the hill" ever since.

That meeting led to Phelps' joining the renowned Southern gospel group the Gaither Vocal Band as its new tenor, and touring the country's 20,000-seat venues.

Now, however, Phelps is building his solo career. In February, he released his solo debut, "Revelation," on Word.
