According to the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), rates of type 2, or adult onset diabetes have tripled in the last 30 years. This is due largely to the global epidemic of obesity, a major risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes. The connection is so strong that some health experts have coined a new term, "Diabesity".

An organisation called Shape Up America (which has trademariked the term Diabesity), estimates that 97% of all cases of Type 2 diabetes are caused by excessive weight. They also report that losing weight can, not only lessen the symptoms of diabetes, but can even put the disease into remission. Right here at home we…
