Contrasting aspects of Sir John Soane's activities and interests are the subjects of two exhibitions in Britain this summer. The first, "Hooked on Books": The Library of Sir John Soane, Architect, 1753-1837, is on view at the Weston Gallery of the University of Nottingham until August 30. It contains about fifty of the some seven thousand books that Soane accumulated and which are normally kept, but not displayed, at the museum in London that bears his name. The examples on view include literary rarities such as the Second Folio of William Shakespeare's plays, as well as guidebooks, architectural manuals, and related prints and drawings. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue written by Eileen Harris and Nicholas Savage and published by the museum. It can be ordered by telephoning 44-20-7440-4263.
