The Consumer Confidence Index fell seven points in June to 77 points (1996 average=100 points), due to greater political uncertainty, following the narrowing of the coalition and worries that the security situation could escalate.

The drop in the Consumer Confidence Index in June was the greatest since October 2003, and followed a steady 17-point rise since February. Nevertheless, the index is still well above its level of June 2003, and the decline in trend figures for June was much less than the original figure.
