Here are some of the useful facts I learned listening to Air America, the all-liberal talk radio network:
* Neil Bush blew up World Trade Center building number seven.
* Rush Limbaugh isn't just a big, fat, pill-popper, but an evil Nazi too.
* President Bush launched the invasion of Afghanistan not to root out al-Qaeda, but to secure a valuable pipeline for his buddies in the oil industry.
That's where my education ended. I tried to tune in the network's local affiliate again while driving to work one morning, but the voices of Al Franken, Janeane Garafolo, Chuck D, and Air America's lesser-known hosts were gone, replaced by the tinny sound of Mexican pop music.
In Los Angeles, it was Off-the-Air America less than one week into the network's existence. The local affiliate says it wasn't paid for leased airtime, a charge Air America vehemently denies. The result was an end to Air America's programming, not only in L.A., but in Chicago, too.
It must have been an embarrassing moment for the network's luminaries. To think, it wasn't long ago when they were bright stars. Headliner Franken was a Saturday Night Live favorite. Garafolo, too, had a promising career--remember The Truth about Cats and Dogs? And Chuck D ruled the rap world with his band Public Enemy.
