Hiroshima, 9 July: The Hiroshima High Court awarded damages in full Friday [9 July] to a group of former Chinese laborers who were forced to work in severe conditions at a construction site in Hiroshima Prefecture during World War II. [Passage omitted]

Later Friday, the company appealed against the ruling to the Supreme Court.

At the same time, the judge determined that the plaintiffs' right to claim damages for being forcibly brought to Japan from China expired 20 years after the offence was committed, based on the provisions of the Civil Code.
