(From New Straits Times (Malaysia))
KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - Several heads of State Governments said they would abide by the call from Prime Minister Datuk Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to be careful in recommending candidates for titles.
"Whatever happened in the past is over.
"We are now more careful in selecting recipients to make sure that such an incident does not happen again," said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman today.
When asked to elaborate on what he meant by past incidents, Musa declined to comment.
Only those proven to have contributed significantly to the State would be conferred titles by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, he said.
Musa said in Sabah those who were conferred the "Datuk" title or other awards were deserving individuals who had contributed to the State or country, and not because of their origins, race, religion or prominence.
