New York, July 6 (ANTARA) - Many Indonesians living here failed to vote during their country's first direct presidential election on Monday for many reasons, an Indonesian official has said.

"Indonesians who did not go to the polls (here) were probably those whose visas have expired. They could have been afraid of the immigration laws," the Indonesian consulate's head for information, social and cultural section, Iwanshah, said here on Monday.

He estimated the number of Indonesians who did not vote at thousands.
