More schools drop SAT exam as scores fall.(NEWSWATCH)

Adding to a growing list of more than 735 schools, Virginia's George Mason University and Rhode Island's Providence College announced that they too are dropping the SAT requirement for admission.

More than 25% of the U.S. News and World Report's Top 100 liberal arts colleges have made admissions tests like the SAT or ACT optional. Eliminating the test requirement increases the size and diversity of applicant pools, according to admissions officers.

The optional reporting of scores is good news for students, as the high school class of 2006 recorded the sharpest drop in SAT scores in more than 30 years. A new test format, which takes an average of almost four hours to complete, may be partially to blame.
