The Liberty Alliance , a global consortium developing standards that make it easier to share user identities and passwords across web sites, said Wednesday it has issued compliance certificates to several major high-tech companies.

Nine companies in all have received certificates for implementation of Liberty technology in identity management-related products, officials said. To earn certification, the companies had to pass a battery of conformance tests.
