A SALE of literature and photographs to be held at Sotheby's on 8 July will include many items of Irish interest including highly important books and manuscripts by James Joyce.

A newly discovered and previously unrecorded Proclamation of Independence of the Irish Republic printed at Liberty Hall, Dublin, on Easter Sunday, 1916 has an estimate of GBP40,000-60,000.

Destroyed Although the intention was to produce 2,500 Proclamations only about 1,000 were actually printed. Of these, most were destroyed during the storming of Liberty Hall and the turmoil in the surrounding streets and only about 20 copies survived.
