KUALA LUMPUR, Sat. - The Customs Department collected RM20.38 billion in taxes last year, RM5 billion short of the target.
Customs director-general Tan Sri Abdul Halil Abdul Mutalib said today that the amount collected last year was 2.4 per cent less than for the previous year, following Government tax exemptions that included service tax and tax on petroleum products.
"This could easily amount to RM2.2 billion," he said after launching the Mega Sales and Exhibition event in conjunction with the 22nd World Customs Day at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
