A BUSINESSMAN from Manchester has been fined GBP200 for making racist comments about the Scots.

Mark Tyler pleaded guilty to "racially aggravated disorderly behaviour" after a drink-fuelled row with the night manager of a hotel in the historic cathedral city of Lincoln.

A court heard that his comments, which were not directly aimed at the manager, would have "insulted" any Scottish people within earshot.

Tyler, 34, of Northdown Avenue, Hulme, admitted a single charge when he appeared before magistrates in Lincoln.

The court heard he had been drinking when the incident happened at the Marriott Hotel.

Carl Codd, defending, said: "Regrettably comments were made by him regarding something which in the past would not have covered someone from Scotland, because it was not seen to be racist.
